I had the privilege of being coached by Mike Cron for 12 years during my time in the All Blacks.

Mike's ability to connect with all his players is outstanding and because of this he understands the best ways to help players improve their skills. He is also extremely innovative in trying different things at training to solve the problems players might experience during games. He is always looking for ideas from other sports that could be incorporated into his coaching. A lot of these helped the teams he coached stay ahead of the field because of this continual improvement.

Through Mike's coaching style he instils belief in his players and has a great way of providing feedback that provides excitement for players to improve. Mike always has extremely well-planned coaching sessions where everything is done for a particular reason and flow well to reach the intended outcomes.

From my point of view as a captain I really enjoyed the coach/captain relationship where he empowered me and our players to think for ourselves while arming us with the tools to deal with different situations within a game.

I had a huge amount of enjoyment playing for Mike's team throughout my career as it was a culture of continual excellence and improvement whilst enjoying the game of rugby.
